Module 5

Supporting Your Child in Building Resilience

Resilience is the ability to persevere in the face of difficulties and adapt positively despite setbacks. It is not something you are born with, but rather is a skill that can be cultivated from a young age. In this module, you will learn how to encourage and build resilience in your child.

Topics include:

5A

Building and strengthening resilience in your child

5B

Supporting and guiding your child in problem-solving

Building and strengthening resilience in your child

Throughout your life, you hold onto certain values, beliefs, and attitudes that help you manage and persevere through challenges and disappointments.

As you are your child's first role model, how you handle challenges and disappointments in life will shape the way your child navigates similar experiences.

Supporting and guiding your child in problem-solving

Experiencing and overcoming difficulties is a normal part of life. Instead of always going to your child’s rescue, try building their resilience and ability to overcome challenges independently by teaching them to communicate, solve problems, manage emotions, and seek help when needed.

As your child grows and develops, they will start to be less reliant on external support (I Have) and instead tap on their skills (I Can), as well as personal attitudes and feelings (I Am) to handle their challenges.
