Services from community agencies
If you or your child have concerns and would like to seek additional help for mental health and well-being, there are many community agencies which offer:
-
Involves using techniques (e.g. active listening, guidance, advice, discussion and clarification) to help individuals cope with personal problems (e.g. their emotions, behaviour, work, marriage, education, life stage)
-
Although often used interchangeably, counselling is different from psychotherapy
-
Involves using specific techniques, strategies, or programmes (e.g. relaxation techniques, anticipating triggers of stress and deep breathing techniques) to teach individuals ways to cope with stressful situations and feelings of stress and anxiety
-
Some community agencies also provide support for caregivers who are experiencing stress and anxiety (e.g. support groups for caregivers)
-
Involves using evidence-based approaches (e.g. applied behaviour analysis) to address the triggers of problem behaviours and produce a significant change in behaviour over time
